Karol Beffa is a composer and pianist, and has been an actor as a child between seven and twelve years old. He is a graduate of Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris where he entered in 1988 and obtained eight first prizes. Lecturing in musicology at the École Normale Supérieure since 2004, he was invited to occupy the prestigious Professorship of Artistic Creation at the Collège de France in 2012-2013. He has also been composer in residence for the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse from 2006 to 2009 and received a Victoire de la Musique as best composer of the year 2013. He is author of "Comment parler de musique?" and of "György Ligeti" (both published at Fayard editions) and has co-authored, with Fields medal-winning mathematician Cédric Villani, "Les Coulisses de la création" (Flammarion editions, 2017). Karol Beffa was awarded the SACEM Grand Prix de la musique symphonique in 2017 for his lifetime achievement.
